Why applications fail
Five reasons applications get rejected. None of them is being unqualified.
The same essay sent everywhere
Selection panels read hundreds. A generic essay is obvious by the second paragraph, and it is the fastest rejection there is.
No answer to "then what"
Applications that stop at "I want to study X" lose to ones that say what happens after. Every funder here is buying a result.
Applying to one and stopping
Even strong candidates lose most of the time. People who win have usually applied to four or five.
Missing a document
An incomplete application is not assessed at all. Nobody chases you. Check the list twice before you submit.
Leaving it to the last day
Portals crash, references arrive late, uploads fail. Submitting two weeks early costs nothing.
Questions about applying
Why do scholarship applications get rejected?
Rarely for being unqualified. Far more often: an essay that could have been sent anywhere, no answer to what happens after the degree, a missing document, or applying to one award and stopping.
An incomplete application is not assessed at all, and nobody will chase you for the missing piece.
How many should I apply for?
Four or five. Strong candidates lose most of the time — these are numbers games with hundreds of applicants per place. People who win have usually applied widely and reused the core of their essay, adapted properly for each.
