The Roadmap to Japan
Japan's process revolves around one critical document: The Certificate of Eligibility (COE). Without it, you cannot apply.
Apply for COE
After acceptance, your university applies for the Certificate of Eligibility (COE) on your behalf at the Immigration Bureau in Japan. You send them photos and financial proof.
Receive Digital COE
Once approved, the Immigration Bureau issues the COE. The university will email you the Digital COE. Check for any errors in your name or birthdate immediately.
Visa Application
Take your Passport, Visa Application Form, and printed COE to the Japanese Embassy in your country. Because you have the COE, this step is fast (usually 5-7 days).
Airport Entry & Card
At major airports (Narita, Haneda, Kansai), you will receive your Residence Card (Zairyu Card) directly at immigration. You must also submit the "Permission to Engage in Activity" form here for work rights.
